In fact, the name Washlet is a trademark of TOTO. We also read toilet seats with cleaning functions other than TOTO as washlets, but to be precise, only TOTO products can be called washlets.
It seems that INAX’s are called shower toilets. But in fact, TOTO’s washlet is too major, and other companies’ products are also called washlets.
The washlet was launched in 1980 (Showa 55). Surprisingly, history is old. It used to be rare in the past, but recently more and more households have toilets with washlets. Some people who have sickness such as warts and hemorrhoids can’t add it without a washlet.
Speaking of washlets, of course, Western toilets are used, but it seems that washlets for Japanese toilets were also on sale.
It was sold by TOTO from 1996 to 2003, and it seems that it was called “Washlet W”, a warm water washer for Japanese-style toilets. “W” seems to have been named after the Japanese word for “wa”.
It is the same as a normal Western style washlet, and it seems that the nozzle came out from the back of the Japanese style toilet bowl for cleaning. I’d like to give it a try, but it’s not on sale anymore. Recently, you can hardly see Japanese-style toilets.
